Mike Welsh

Mike has worked in secondary and further education since 1987 and been a senior leader in schools, private training providers and colleges since 1996. His most recent post was as Principal and Chief Executive of a FE College in Yorkshire, securing more that £4m of capital investment from the DFE and Local Enterprise Partnerships since 2018.

Recently retired following wide-ranging career holding senor leadership and executive positions in public and private sectors. After an early career in Music Education and Music Industry, multi-sector, cross organisation roles followed including with Tresham College of Further and Higher Education, LCBT Ltd, College of North West London, and as Principal and Chief Executive of East Riding College, now part of TEC Partnership.

Mike has extensive experience of organisational culture enhancement through strategic planning, curriculum innovation and quality improvement and by working as an Additional Inspector of Arts & Media within FE for OfSTED. He was appointed as an honorary life member of the City and Guilds of London Institute for services to technical and vocational education and training, and Fellowship of the Chartered Institution of Further Education in recognition of distinguished professional contribution to vocational education, both in 2015.

From a college design perspective, Mike is a very experienced and articulate client-side design team advocate and facilitator. He is a specialist in enabling senior leadership teams to enhance curriculum innovation and development potential, pedagogy, quality and standards, external partnerships, and community engagement, through building design, to project delivery and real use by user phases.
